The FAQ Page - Your Ignored Webpage is Video Gold

Is there a more ignored, disrespected, plain old after-thought on a website than the FAQ page?

When was the last time you updated your FAQ page? Have you even added content to your FAQ page or does it still have the dreaded. “Under Construction” headline when a viewer clicks to the page? Go ahead, go to your site and check. I’ll wait….

What you might not realize is your FAQ page is video content gold! Think about it. It should contain all of the main questions your customers ask. If you go even deeper, the FAQ page is the original blog! It’s where you have the opportunity to actually provide valuable content your customer wants! I mean, if it’s a frequently asked question then it must be an important topic for your customers.

So here is your assignment, for those who don’t have much content on your FAQ page, start thinking about your FAQs and populate that page. For those who have a well thought out FAQ page, it’s time to take it a step further and turn that information into video content.

Often times, we here at Agile Video get the question, “What videos should I do?” Well, there are a lot of answers to that question but I often ask, “What are your customers most frequently asked questions? Take those and answer them with video.”

This provides you with content not only for your website but for social media, newsletters, email campaigns, YouTube, and so much more!

Establish Yourself as the Expert

First and foremost, creating FAQ videos, promoting them and getting them in front of your customers establishes you as the expert in your field. Your videos become go-to viewing for people interested in your industry. In reality, these videos are really How-to or training videos and YouTube exists because of these types of videos.

For example, you don’t want to miss the opportunity if you’re a realtor in Maple Grove, MN and home buyers are searching for, “What is the best elementary school in Maple Grove?” Create a short video about the school district in Maple Grove.

If you build websites, I’m sure you’ve been asked, “How much does a website cost?” Answer the question with a video! You will instantly be ahead of your competition.

Save Yourself Time and Money

I had a question about a certain medical device (thanks for worrying but I’m doing great!!) so I tried to find an answer and couldn’t. My last resort was to call the company. This was a small company so I had to talk to a sales person because she was the only person I could reach. The sales person answered my question relatively quickly (within 5 minutes) and then I asked, “How often do you get this call?” She said, “At least 10-15 times a week!” Wow, that’s a lot of time answering the same question over and over when a simple video would have taken care of the issue.

Creating FAQ videos frees up your time to reach out to potential customers rather than answering common questions of people who are already customers.

Make Your Customers Happy

You’ve avoided it for a long time. But video is here and your customers expect it. By creating FAQ videos, you are helping your customers and keeping them happy. We live in a world where everyone wants instant gratification. If customers don’t find the answer they want with one simple Google search, they get frustrated. By creating videos geared specifically to their needs, customers will think you understand them. And that’s really important to today’s buyers.

FAQ Videos = Cheap Content

FAQ videos are probably the easiest videos to produce. Often times you don’t need to hire professional on-camera talent. Someone from your company will work just fine.

You don’t need to pay for a huge video production crew. Usually you can do some great FAQ videos with a videographer and producer. With some planning up front, the shoot should go off without a hitch!

You can record multiple videos at once. As I mentioned above, planning is key. Think about your top 5, 10, or even 15 most frequently asked questions and create short videos for each one. A skilled video production company can help you record these in one shoot. (Not to brag but Agile Video’s record is recording 22 FAQ videos in 5 hours.) If you shoot multiple videos at one time, the cost per video reduces significantly!

Can You Create Your Own FAQ Videos?

The answer is, maybe!! Well, the answer is always yes if you’d like. There are some great examples of FAQ videos where the client has produced them without the help of a professional. If you go this route, Agile Video recommends the following:

  1. Practice - Make sure you practice what you are going to say. Have an outline but not necessarily a script. The best DIY videos come from the heart so if you appear to be scripted you won’t appear to be genuine. If you aren’t genuine you might be thought of as untrustworthy so make sure you practice!

  2. Keep it short - We recommend you give your information and get out. There is no need to have a long intro with your logo spinning on a background. There’s also no need to talk about what you’re going to talk about. If you set up your video correctly, give it a proper title and description, your viewer will know what it’s about before they click on it. Get to the meat of the video right away so you don’t lose the interest of your viewer.

  3. Good audio is more important than good video - You can have the best visuals. Heck, Steven Spielberg himself could direct the shots but if you have bad audio, you will lose the audience. People tend to associate bad audio with bad videos. So make sure you have great content and great audio. The video itself needs to be good but not Spielberg worthy.

  4. Don’t be a salesperson - FAQs are best if they are simply answering a question and providing information for the viewer. Yes, you can plug your company a bit but don’t overdo it. Keep the marketing speak to a minimum and simply answer the question.

Here is a great example of a DIY video created by a financial planner. He’s simply answering the question, “What are our fees?”
